Twitter Account of Popular Israeli Daily Hacked

The English-language Twitter account of popular daily Israel Hayom was hacked Monday morning. The hackers tweeted fake news updates about Hezbollah spying against Israel, and about the status of US President Donald Trump.

One tweet wrongly reported that Hezbollah deployed an “underwater spy drone” to obtain intelligence about Israel. Another “breaking news” tweet claimed that President Trump transferred his powers to Vice President Mike Pence.

Israel Hayom posted an update saying that the hackers blocked the news team’s access to the account, and that the newspaper was working to regain control. There was no indication that the newspaper’s Hebrew-language account was breached.

Israel Hayom is a right-wing daily distributed free of charge. Currently it’s Israel’s most widely distributed newspaper.
